Introduction to the impacts of climate change and adaptation solutions

Summary of the activity

This training activity defines certain key terms for better understanding the impacts of climate change in Quebec and the different adaptation strategies, then presents examples for the entire province as well as for certain regions and economic sectors. More specifically, this training activity covers:

  • Climatic hazards and phenomena in Quebec 

  • The general impacts of climate change in Quebec and the priorities in adaptation, supported by examples of solutions recommended by the Groupe d’experts en adaptation aux changements climatiques (expert group on climate change adaptation)

  • Structural and non-structural adaptation strategies, illustrated with examples  

  • Specific impacts in four major regions of Quebec and some examples of local solutions 

  • Suggestions on which measures to enact depending on the scale of implementation  
     

General objective

Gain a general understanding of the impacts of climate change in Quebec and the different solutions to minimize them.

Ouranos

Martin Payette holds a B.Sc. in Biological Sciences from Université de Montréal, an M.Sc. in Biology from Université du Québec à Montréal and a Graduate Diploma in Journalism from Concordia University. He comes to Ouranos with a wealth of multidisciplinary experience in research, science popularization, writing and audio/video production for a variety of audiences.

As Research and Knowledge Mobilization Specialist, he actively contributes to the valorization and knowledge transfer resulting from integrated scientific programming in adaptation to climate change in order to ensure this knowledge is accessible to various types of adaptation actors.
