Winds and storms
Wind
At present in Quebec, no reliable trend has been observed for wind, either for direction or intensity. Annual and decade-long fluctuations mean that observed trends are rarely significant.
Although instruments can accurately measure wind, its speed and direction are highly dependent on very local effects. For example, for many locations, it is difficult to determine whether a trend is due to changes in land use or climate change.
Storms
It is difficult to detect a change in frequency or intensity for the various types of storms. There is data on their occurrence but very little on their intensity. In addition, this data is concentrated in southern Quebec, providing poor coverage for the province as a whole. That makes it necessary to turn to methods of detecting these hazards whose results vary considerably depending on the technique used.
